Things to know before writing Articles
I’ve read a lot of interesting stories about how writer’s block can affect their writing and how they should try to overcome it in order to be able to write their best work. These stories, however, mostly focus on how writer’s block can cause writers to stop producing quality work and become frustrated with themselves. So, if you want to make your article even more impactful and give yourself the opportunity not to worry about the lack of words and paragraphs in your article, then you’d better get out there and start working on all those issues yourself.
In no exception, this is especially true when you are doing freelance work or looking for any remote writing jobs. The thing is that these issues don’t just happen to anyone who has never written anything at all before. This problem is all the time present in many creative fields.
The truth is, writer’s block doesn’t come all at once, but rather comes from a series of smaller issues that build up over time. All you need to do is learn through trial and error: if you really want to improve your skills and knowledge, then you should practice a bit, practice again, and again, and again until even practice has made little changes. You can only do that when you actually put in the hours and effort.
Here are some tips and tricks that can help you avoid writer’s block:
1) Workout
When you feel stuck, go to the gym with your laptop or tablet. If you really like something, take a lot of pictures of it in your head and put them together in different categories of images. It will help you get an idea about what parts you like best and which are your least favorite parts of your photo.
2) Read Your Own Article Over And Again
Not only is reading your own article helpful for getting a glimpse of what your article sounds like, but it will also allow you to check your grammar and spelling mistakes. When you see mistakes, ask yourself why it happened and fix it right away. Don’t wait too long; a small mistake may ruin your entire article completely. Look everywhere possible for more examples, examples that have been already written somewhere, and try to find one or two (at least 5) things that you did well in your original article. For example, you might notice that you used “you have…” in the beginning when describing the subject. If you didn’t add it there yourself, then read through the paragraph and try to identify where “you have…” was placed. Then, look for similar phrases with the same subject but without using the word “you have.” Now try to spot where it’s missing and use it somewhere else in the sentence.
3) Go Back and Edit Yourself Often
I will be the first person to admit that going back and looking for a way to edit the article and making it better is difficult. Even though most of us were taught to go back and edit our blog posts, the fact of the matter is that we probably all have very bad editors. That’s exactly why editing your articles is so important: it helps you understand your mistakes and correct stuff that needs to be fixed. As always, it’s always good to take advantage of Grammarly or other tools to get rid of common grammatical errors and typos.
4) Do Research
If you want to increase your chances of getting a job as a freelancer, find out about people who are hiring and make sure that your pitch fits with theirs. If a lot of companies have their websites, this is one step you should try to take advantage of as much as possible. Find out the names of businesses you might want to apply to if you can. Also, research the kinds of roles available for creative writers and search for them online because if you end up being rejected for any of them, then you might want to reconsider.
5) Try Self-Publishing Your Book
I’m convinced that self-publishing your book is one of the most challenging steps that a beginner could go through. But the thing is that this is the best thing that can ever happen to you. With self-publishing, you take full control of all your rights, which means that you decide for yourself whether or not you want to publish a book, and if not, you choose who gets to publish it, and the publisher decides what happens after you’ve published it. What’s nice about reading a book in paperback, however, is that you have more control over everything than you ever had as a writer before.
6) Ask Friends
Ask friends how to write articles. They won’t tell you what they think; if they haven’t seen an already done an awful article already, then they won’t know how to fix it. However, when you have three or four stories that they don’t know how to fix anyway, then they probably don’t really care either. There is always someone there who knows how to fix the issue. Plus, it’s totally possible that they won’t like your article, but then they might be looking for writers who have the ability to rewrite them.
7) Take Time For Yourself
We tend to think writers spend too much time hunched over computers writing articles that nobody reads and, although many writers say otherwise, I personally feel like writers shouldn’t be allowed to work more than eight hours a day (for most of us, that’s our main source of income and pleasure). Instead, I encourage you to take every opportunity you get to rest and relax, even if it’s for five minutes at a time. You don’t have to worry about your readers or your boss, and there are few things that bring me more joy than seeing my children sleep and finally get dressed in the morning.
8) Be Honest
The biggest misconception about writing is that that people will only read your article if you have something terrible to say. In reality, it seems like the opposite, but writers think that if someone isn’t reading your article in its entirety, it’s boring. While I know that writing is an incredibly rewarding experience, I am here to say that it isn’t hard to write an article that you wouldn’t mind if someone didn’t enjoy and read it.
9) Tell Someone Or Write Them An Article Of Their Own
Writing is, honestly, something that really hurts you when you get started. Some days are tougher and harder than others, and when you’re upset, it makes you sad more than anything. You can’t go through life without experiencing some tough times, so remember not to cry into your pillow.
10) Practice Gratitude
There is nothing wrong with having your priorities and desires change throughout the course of your life whenever you’re feeling down. Nobody in the world is perfect, and some days are more difficult than others. Most importantly, sometimes you will stumble along and feel lost in the sand, but thanks to Google, you will find help and hope on the other side. Just because you have no idea how to do something, it doesn’t mean that you’re destined to fail. Nothing bad ever happened because we didn’t try. Keep a note of what helped you get past the difficulty, and if you’re struggling, remind yourself that success comes from taking action and that there will always be plenty of motivation waiting for you on the other side.
11) Get Out Of Routine Life
I know I sound repetitive, but one of the best ways for your writer’s block to go away is simply getting yourself out of the routines, so that you’re constantly aware of how to create content without trying new things and exploring. Maybe the best part is that you don’t have to be a writer to write a great article (even being a writer). A writer can be an engineer, architect, photographer, accountant, writer, etc., and no writer out there would claim to be a writer. Everyone has something to offer, and everyone has something worth saying about. Make sure to find your voice, and write whatever is you feel like saying. Put your pen and paper on the table and write about whatever it is that you’d like, and don’t forget to share your story to inspire others.
12) Stay Positive
This one has to be said. I hate when people say that staying positive during writer’s block is the key to beating writer’s block. People who suffer from writer’s block don’t want to believe that they are incapable or unable because this isn’t what they have done as successful writers, either! Writer’s block is often caused by negative thoughts that keep coming into our heads and filling our heads with negativity, so it’s imperative to stay focused on the task in front of you.
13) Change Your Focus From One Project To Another
When you’re starting out, I’ll give you a piece of advice. Avoid picking up multiple projects at once. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself. Start off by focusing on small things that generate interest in your current project, and then slowly expand upon that. Take care to only work on one item at a time and make a point of setting goals for yourself. Once you have accomplished a goal, work on another item that’s within your scope and set up a process for it. Each project will take time to complete, and once you get past a stage in the process that feels overwhelming or seems to have gotten in the way, you
